The Liberal Morality? |

I can’t believe the arrogance of the left. (Actually that’s not true I do believe it.) The New York Times (All the liberal opinion that’s fit to print!) printed a column, reproduced in today’s Daytona Beach News Journal, by a typical liberal journalist whose name, I believe, is Kristoff. In his opinion piece he states that the Democratic Party must pay attention to the heartland where, in his words, people voted against what was “clearly their best interests”. Now I find it the height of arrogance that a New York liberal believes he knows better than the folks in the heartland of this country what is good for them. People in large numbers are not going to vote against their best interest and suggesting that they do is profound ignorance. This man, as is the case with most liberals, has lost touch with the core values of the majority of this country. In my humble opinion, far more people voted Democrat against their better judgment, than did Republican. Heartland America simply does not agree with things like gay marriage, federally funded abortions, and entitlement programs that benefit only the inner city. Until the Democratic Party realizes that the people in the heartland don’t have the same needs and desires as those in the big cities they will continue to lose their support. |

This also illustrates why the Electoral College must not be tampered with. If we go to a system of direct voting virtually all of our future leaders will be elected by the urban areas of this country, greatly diluting the vote of the largest part of this country in terms of landmass, if not population. The vast majority of the people that suggest we do away with our current system are liberal. They know that they are much stronger in the urban areas where we have concentrations of population and would further marginalize the needs of small town America were the support of liberal policy is sparse. This is the same reason that we have two houses of Congress. Thomas Jefferson and our Founding Fathers were brilliant, until and unless, you have the education, experience, and intelligence to revile Thomas Jefferson don’t try to change the system that he designed. Mr. Kristoff’s arrogance is exceeded by his ignorance. He justifies his opinion above with snide remarks about tax cuts for billionaires. OK I know you liberals have trouble understanding basic economics but I’ll try to explain this in as simple terms as possible. First; it is the rich that pay the vast majority of taxes now, 80% of all income tax is paid by 20% of earners. The top 50% of earners pay 98% of taxes. When you give an across the board tax cut the biggest payers get the biggest breaks. Second, the liberals would have you believe that these people keep this money all to themselves, they do not. This money is invested into businesses allowing them to grow, this money is put into bank accounts, CD’s and bonds, supplying money that the banks can use to make loans to those of us that can’t pay cash for a new car or home. This is a basic economic principle that the liberals just don’t get. If you take away this money, interest rates go up, investment and growth go down, and with this, jobs and tax revenue are less. Do you remember the heady days of liberalism under Jimmy Carter? When income taxes on the top earners got up to 70% and interest rates climbed to 20%? Do you understand the connection? Let me try to simplify this further. Higher Taxes = Less money available = Higher interest rates = Lower spending = less productivity = less tax revenue. Or maybe it will click for you this way; Lower Taxes = More available money = Lower interest rates = More spending = Growth = Jobs = More Tax Revenue. Obviously there is a point of diminishing returns but our current Nobel Prize winning economist has stated that we are not near that point yet. Still don’t get it? How about this; You want to buy a new car, with a higher tax rate on the wealthy, the interest on your new car loan is higher which means that you can’t buy as nice a car or maybe that you can’t buy one at all. With lower tax rates, and therefore a larger supply of capitol, the interest is lower and you can get a nicer car with lower payments. Do you understand now? How can I say that lower tax rates increase tax revenue you ask? Ok one more time here. Lower taxes increase the supply of capitol for investments, lowering interest rates allowing small business to borrow money to grow their business creating new jobs that, in turn, create new tax revenues! Do you get it now? Great! Welcome to the Republican Party. |
